Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s. Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT. The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup. Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session. Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the fence. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the fast downhill corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight. The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
